The Olympic Flame

This last set of photos, from a different angle, shows the Olympic Flame being transferred from the ‘miners lamp’ to the first torchbearer, Carol Ann Clarke, just inside the County Durham boundary. Few people witnessed this, as it was expected to take place at the junction a little up the road, where most people were waiting. I was born and brought up in Shotley Bridge 1941 wish I had been there to see the flame it must have been a wonderful site Rose Sedgwick loved it brought back memories of a beautiful place

Thanks Jeff for your work and time to provide us all with these wonderful photos and memories of a really unique day, when this powerful global symbol arrived at our tiny bridge over the river Derwent, and brought more history to Shotley Bridge that day.
