The Benfieldside Blackhill Bridgehill and Shotley Bridge Community Partnership are holding a Funday at The Spa on Bank Holiday Monday, from 1-5pm.

The Village Trust will have an exhibition and a ‘Bring & Buy’ plant stall, to raise money for bedding plants and bulbs for the ‘Britain in Bloom’ tubs. If you have any surplus plants please bring them with you.
The Shotley Grove footbridge across the River Derwent has been hoisted into place and bolted onto its concrete foundations.
Hopefully it will not be many more weeks before the bridge will be open to pedestrians.

Contractors are lifting the new footbridge into position at Shotley Grove tomorrow morning.
Today the two halves were delivered and joined together ready for hoisting into position sometime tomorrow morning.
The photos show the first section being unloaded at lunchtime today and where the metal structure will be fixed onto the river bank.

The completion of the extension work and fitting out of new rooms at Saint Cuthbert’s Church Hall, Church Bank is being marked by an Open Day, this Saturday, 14th May from 10a.m. – 3p.m.

The Trust had a display of old photographs at the Consett and District Heritage Initiative’s open day in the Heritage Centre, Blackhill & Consett Park last Saturday.

Local people have been donating their photographic collections to scan into the Heritage Centre’s photographic archive and there are some interesting photos of Shotley Bridge. I intend putting a gallery of old photos of the village on this site later this year.
