Before the torch arrived the sponsors handed out freebies to the crowd and entertained them for a while. The bus with the torch bearers set off ahead of the sponsors convoy and the arrival of the flame from Northumberland, whilst service buses had police escorts through the crowds.

Final preparations for the Torch
June 16, 2012Before the Torch arrived
June 16, 2012Here are some photos before the Olympic Torch arrived in Shotley Bridge this afternoon. I’ve never seen so many people in the village and some had taken their places 2 hours before the Torch was due to arrive just after 4pm! The sun shone occasionally but it also poured down at times.
Planting Day
June 12, 2012The summer bedding in the tubs and troughs within the Conservation Area were planted by Trust volunteers at the weekend. Red Geraniums and Begonias with Blue and White Lobelia is the colour scheme this year, for the Jubilee and Olympics.
The daffodil bulbs are to be replanted at Shotley Bridge Junior School and the dead plants composted.
Thank you to all 27 volunteers who helped with the task.
