Preparing for planting day

October 3, 2023

Volunteers from the Blooming group of the Village Trust were hard at work today weeding and sweeping the ‘Triangle’ and preparing for tub planting day later this month.

Another 10 new tubs have been purchased to replace more of the dilapidated tubs that were first planted in 2010. They will need to be painted and prepared over the next week and filled with compost. The old tubs will also need to be broken up. 13 tubs were replaced earlier this year before the summer bedding was planted.

Thank you again to the Crown & Crossed Swords for letting us have the use of one of their garages to paint the tubs and to our County Councillors, Kevin & Stephen, for providing funding to enable the Trust to purchase the new tubs, bulbs and winter bedding plants.

Clearing ‘The Cut’ again

September 26, 2023

Six volunteers from the Blooming group of the Shotley Bridge Village Trust dug out the stream, cut back encroaching vegetation and swept the path at ‘The Cut’ this morning.

The bottom end of the path, leading on to The Terrace, has still to be completed.

Summer Bedding in Tubs

June 7, 2023

Last Saturday morning was summer bedding planting day. Twenty Village Trust volunteers planted the tubs with deep blue Salvias and orange, red & yellow Begonias. With the sunny outlook it should not be long before the plants are in full bloom, provided they are well watered!

Thank you to all who helped and the five volunteers who worked for 3 days earlier that week in preparing and relocating 10 new tubs to replace those that were starting to fall apart. Without the much appreciated offer from the Crown & Crossed Swords for the use of its garage and electical facilities the task would have been much more difficult.

Tidy up at the Triangle

March 28, 2023

The Famous Five were hard at work in clearing the Triangle of leaves and debris this morning.

Still to complete the weeding and pruning of the shrub bed, when rain stopped play!

Hopefully the council will remove the moss and apply weedkiller to the paved areas.

Thank you again to the Village Trust ‘Blooming’ volunteers.

Annual Litter Pick

March 25, 2023

A dozen volunteers from the Village Trust scoured the conservation area for litter this morning and managed to find plenty to collect. Though there appeared to be less litter than last year.
