Construction of the first phase of the Story Homes residential development on the former Shotley Bridge Hospital site is well under way. A sales cabin has been installed at the Elm Park entrance to the site, which is expected to open late May or early June, less than 6 months since infrastructure work first started on site.

May 20, 2012At 4pm on Saturday 16th June the Olympic torch relay will be passing through Shotley Bridge.
The Shotley Bridge Business and Community Partnership. which organised the Victorian Christmas Spectacular, is inviting you to spend the afternoon [from 1pm] in the village centre, prior to the torch’s arrival. The village will be decorated with bunting and red, white & blue flowers. Thanks to John Beales for putting up and taking down the bunting, free of charge.

Primary School children dressed up in red, white & blue will be presented with a gold [chocolate] medal. There will be flags for children to wave, but come early as there are limited numbers of these and the medals. Then join in the fun of a family ‘Treasure Trail’ around the village centre. All correct entries will be included in a draw for family ‘day out’ passes. There will also be business ‘special offers’ and face painting.

May 13, 2012Take a look at the Trust’s May Newsletter, which includes an agenda for the forthcoming AGM & Open Meeting on March 22nd.
There will be an update on ‘Blooming Shotley Bridge’, this year’s photographic competition and information about local Olympic and Jubilee events.
It starts at 7.30pm, with refreshments served from 7.15pm. Please note that a different venue is being used, with very good disabled access, at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church Hall, on Snows Green Road.

School conservation area
May 8, 2012Last Thursday, 2 members of the ‘Blooming Shotley Bridge’ committee helped build the first section of a path which will give access through the new wildlife conservation area at Shotley Bridge Junior School. Volunteers from the Trust intend to give regular help to the development of the site, which will be used by pupils in their education.
Exhibition of local interest
May 2, 2012Next week, from the 9th – 12th May, Consett & District Heritage Initiative will be holding an exhibition of historic photos in St Patrick’s Church Hall, Consett.
They now have a Facebook page, with over 1500 members.
The Trust will be represented, showing old photos of Shotley Bridge and information about the history of the village. Refreshments will be available, so please call in if you are shopping in Consett.
