Planting violas

November 2, 2013

This morning volunteers planted 50 tubs in the conservation area, just in time before the heavens opened at lunchtime.  The bulbs and plants will be well watered in by now, as it has poured down most of the afternoon.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of  RHS Britain in Bloom, we have planted yellow daffodils and red tulips having a yellow & orange centre together with orange, yellow and white violas.

At the meeting on Tuesday evening an update was given on Blooming Shotley Bridge and the decision was taken to enter the competition again next year and to strive for a gold award.

A report was also given on the results of the public consultation carried out by Durham County Council on 10th September, about their five proposed schemes for the S106 funding to improve the village centre.  Here is the report if you would like to read it.

Village Centre Improvements

September 10, 2013

Over 100 people visited the King’s Head Social Club today to look at the County Council’s exhibition.  The Council had selected and produced detailed, costed proposals for 5 of the 17 suggestions put forward at the Village Trust open meeting last October.

The Village Trust had been pre-consulted about the 5 schemes which were discussed at its Open meeting in June.  If you wish to read the Trust’s response, take a look at their S106 information sheet.

Funding of £125,000 is being provided in relation to the housing development on the hospital site.

If you had intended seeing  the exhibition but were unable to attend, send your comments this week to dawn.reed@durham.gov.uk
