Before the flame arrived the Torch sponsors drove past with their promotion vehicles, which raised the expectation that the first torchbearer would appear soon. By this time the crowd had swelled to a massive extent. More photos of the flame will be posted tomorrow.

Torch sponsors
June 16, 2012Final preparations for the Torch
June 16, 2012Before the torch arrived the sponsors handed out freebies to the crowd and entertained them for a while. The bus with the torch bearers set off ahead of the sponsors convoy and the arrival of the flame from Northumberland, whilst service buses had police escorts through the crowds.
Before the Torch arrived
June 16, 2012Here are some photos before the Olympic Torch arrived in Shotley Bridge this afternoon. I’ve never seen so many people in the village and some had taken their places 2 hours before the Torch was due to arrive just after 4pm! The sun shone occasionally but it also poured down at times.
Line the streets
June 15, 2012The Olympic torch is on it’s way.
It arrives in Newcastle this evening and sets off for County Durham tomorrow morning from Gateshead.
The torch is due to arrive in Shotley Bridge just after 4pm on Saturday 16th June.
The Shotley Bridge Business and Community Partnership has decorated the village centre with bunting, and if you come down during the afternoon [from 1pm] the Partnership are handing out flags to wave and presenting chocolate medals to primary school children dressed in red/white/blue. As there are limited supplies come early! There is also face painting at Sarah Thew Photography.
Families can take part in a Treasure Trail around local businesses, with the chance of winning ‘day out’ passes to local attractions. To obtain the flags and medals and to take part in the Treasure Trail you will need to go to Butler & Gee Accountants.
If you would rather stay at home you can watch the Olympic Torch Relay live on the BBC website.

All correct entries will be included in a draw for family ‘day out’ passes. There will also be business ‘special offers’ and face painting.
