Blocked culvert

November 9, 2013

The culvert at the bottom of Benfieldside Road, which regularly overflows during heavy rain to flood Snows Green Road, is being cleared of debris by the County Council.

There is also a scheme proposed to create an enlarged hole in the wall on Snows Green Road to divert any future flood water back into the Snows Green Burn.  This should prevent a lake being formed, which has previously blocked the road and overflowed down into the village centre.

Planting violas

November 2, 2013

This morning volunteers planted 50 tubs in the conservation area, just in time before the heavens opened at lunchtime.  The bulbs and plants will be well watered in by now, as it has poured down most of the afternoon.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of  RHS Britain in Bloom, we have planted yellow daffodils and red tulips having a yellow & orange centre together with orange, yellow and white violas.
