Construction of the first phase of the Story Homes residential development on the former Shotley Bridge Hospital site is well under way. A sales cabin has been installed at the Elm Park entrance to the site, which is expected to open late May or early June, less than 6 months since infrastructure work first started on site.

Spring judging
April 26, 2012Two judges from ‘Northumbria in Bloom’ toured the village for an hour this afternoon, to assess the Trust’s entry in the A2 villages section of this year’s RHS ‘Britain in Bloom’ campaign.
25% of the marks will be awarded from this first visit, with the remainder following the summer visit on 4th July.
Horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation are the three themes which will be judged. ‘Britain in Bloom’ is no longer just about ‘pretty flower displays’.
Litter pick results
April 1, 2012This weekend, 40 bags of rubbish were collected by 15 volunteers from the Village Trust.
We shall need to tidy up the village centre again just before the Spring judging for our entry in Northumbria in Bloom takes place on Thursday 26th April.
Two years ago we picked up 25 bags, but with fewer volunteers we did not reach as far out from the centre of the village.
We are having another litter pick on 9th June, prior to the Olympic torch arriving on the 16th.
Shotley Bridge ‘In Bloom’
March 18, 2012The inaugural meeting for all the entrants in Northumbria in Bloom took place at Spennymoor Town Hall last Tuesday. There are 14 places entered in the ‘village’ category, including Shotley Bridge.
The first judging will be in April, to see the spring bedding, followed by a second to see the summer displays. The presentation ceremony will be held on September 11th, if we have success in winning an award.
