Bridge row article

September 11, 2010

In this week’s Advertiser there is an article about the footbridge at Shotley Grove. It explains why there is a delay in providing the new footbridge link to Forge Cottage and the riverside path on the Northumberland bank of the River Derwent. It appears that there are still ongoing disagreements between Ms Eileen Carr and Durham County Council.

For those that do not read the Advertiser, here is a link.

Hospital Support Group

September 8, 2010

Shotley Bridge Hospital Support Group now meets every two months in the staff restaurant, near the main entrance.  On Wednesday night the main topic under discussion was the future of the hospital once the Durham and Darlington Primary Care Trust is abolished in 2013.

[Update – As the hospital restaurant closed in February 2016 the Group now meet at the Lodge, Consett & Blackhill Park.]

Tubs in the village

August 24, 2010

The ‘ Shotley Bridge Bloomers’ have now finalised plans to brighten up the conservation area with planters full of winter pansies and spring daffodils.

With a grant from the Derwent Valley Partnership, the Trust is looking to provide 45 tubs in the centre of the village and at Snows Green, by the end of September this year.

Volunteers will maintain the tubs and plant them up with summer bedding next year. Sponsors are being sought and fund raising events are to be organised for this.

The project is part of the Trust’s entry in the Britain in Bloom Neighbourhood Awards.
