Play tennis for free

May 11, 2014

Shotley & Benfieldside Tennis Club are taking a very active part next weekend in a major LTA initiative to promote tennis across the country – the GREAT BRITISH TENNIS WEEKEND.

There will be free play, free coaching, free use of balls and rackets etc for all who go along – for whole families as well as individuals. They will also have some special membership deals on offer over the weekend.

This link gives further information on the event across the country, and allows people to pre-register to ensure they are expected and welcome when they arrive: https://clubhouse.lta.org.uk/opendays

The Club’s website at www.shotleytennis.co.uk is now packed with information about events, coaching, team matches etc, and includes an up-to-date diary so all members can check at a glance to make sure there will be courts free before going to play.

Spring judging

April 22, 2014

Two judges from Northumbria in Bloom came today to assess the ‘Blooming Shotley Bridge’ entry in the village category.

Members of the Blooming committee showed them around the conservation area, Junior School grounds and ‘The Cut’, which has been added to the judging area as there are plans for nature conservation improvements.

Although it was raining, the village looked bright and colourful with the winter bedding.

Summer judging is scheduled for the 21 July.
